About Us

The Albert Hotel in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, is a listed building, dating back to the 1830s. A decorative wood finish preserving the style of the past is very much a feature at The Albert Hotel. Many original features have been painstakingly restored to their former glory.

Front of hotel

The Albert Hotel originally belonged to one of the wealthy shipping merchants who used to operate the working docks during the industrial revolution. The people living at the Albert then were like the “Industrial Downton Abbey” class that ruled Britain at the time. The Albert had its own servant quarters, wine cellars, and water wells. Servant bells rang throughout the grand, personally designed houses.

Gloucester

In 49 A.D., the Romans established Gloucester as one of their three main fortresses in Britain. Gloucester had the largest Roman army in Britain, naming Gloucester ‘Glevum’. On show on the hotel's dining room and on the front of the house are the original stones from the Roman wall of Glevum that surrounded Gloucester.
